A Comprehensive Overview of Web Development
Web development is currently an integral part of global web growth, assisting individuals, businesses, and services in creating their digital identities. It includes designing and developing website structures and features, ensuring their operational and visual gross and processing efficiency in their usage.
Web development is an ever-evolving field it is important regardless of your experience level to have a clue about the environment one is about to build on. In this blog, we will discuss what web development is, its categories, fundamental concepts, tools, and the modern trends defining the field.
What is Web Development?
Web development is also known as website development and involves creating, designing, and supporting sites that are on the World Wide Web. This comprises what concerns web design, writing web content, client-side epoch/server-side scripting, putting in place network security, and e-commerce. In other words, it can be applied to any kind of task, ranging from straightforward HTML sites to complicated online apps.
There are two general categories of web development: front-end and back-end development and full-stack development. Let us study each one.
Types of Web Development
1. Front-End Development:
Front-end development is among the subdivisions of Web development that address the visual layer or perspectives of the website, including such options as design, structural design, and interactivity, which involve direct usage by the clients. The front end relies on other languages such as HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language), CSS (Cascading Style Sheets), and JavaScript to present friendly user interfaces.
Key technologies used in Front-end development
2. Back-End Development:
Back-end development refers to the work done at the back end of a website or application, including, database, servers, and APIs. It allows the front end to get the required information and the overall application is fine.
A back-end developer makes sure that data integrity is maintained, that the server will be able to reply to requests at a reasonable amount of time and all things are integrated with the front-end.
Key technologies used in back-end development
3. Full-Stack Development:
Full-stack developer means the developer works from the front as well as from the back end of the program or an application. They also possess the tools that allow them to design and implement every aspect of a web application including that application’s user interface (the GUI) and the behind-the-scenes support (the back-end database component). Full-stack developers should know the different languages, frameworks, and tools and be able and willing to work for both the front end and back end.
Fundamental Components of Web Development
Domain Name and Hosting:
When developing a website, the web address, for instance, www.example.com, or the domain name is required, and the web hosting service, which is the company offering space on the server where files of the website are stored. Most of these basic host service controls include Blue Host, host gator, Go Daddy, and others Domain names could be obtained from any domain reseller service or any hosting service like NameCheap among others.
Responsive Design:
Responsive design means that regardless of the view of the web page, this web page is appropriate and sufficient for the appliance on which the person is using, whether or not it is a computer, notebook, tablet, or mobile. This is done through a CSS component called media queries that reassigns or, rather, sets other styling rules based on screen resolution or, perhaps, orientation. Other frameworks such as Bootstrap and “Foundation” make it easier with prepared responsive web design tools.
Content Management Systems (CMS):
This is a system that enables people with no coding skills, to design, edit and develop content on a website. Some of the most commonly used CMS are WordPress, Joomla, and Drupal. These systems are commonly used for blogs, corporate sites,s, and e-commerce applications.
Version Control and Collaboration:
Professional tools such as Version Control Systems (VCS) like Git, and platforms like “GitHub” or “GitLab” provide the framework with collaborative functions to develop the projects side by side with features to track changes and differentiate one version of the entire codebase from the other. This is especially very important for groups that are assigned large projects, it also helps in case one person messes up the project.
Web Development Tools
Trends Shaping the Future of Web Development
The industry of web development is expanding quickly, and it is changing faster in terms of approachable tools and practical methodologies. The following significant trends will influence web development going forward:
1. Progressive Web Apps (PWAs):
Internet applications that are now called Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) act as a user interface for native mobile applications. Sometimes it works fast, it is dependable, and one of its features is that it can work offline, and in general, it provides an application-like platform on the Web.
PWAs are now extensively utilized and are predicted to grow much more in the future. Leading social media sites such as Pinterest and Twitter have already included PWAs.
2. Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning:
As websites can provide more complex user experiences, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning are bringing about innovative change in online development. Web developers apply AI technologies such as chatbots, recommendation engines, and predictive engines to their work.
3. Voice Search and Voice User Interfaces (VUI):
One of the most recent products incorporated in the experiments of an enhanced search can be linked to voice search due to the development of voice-activated assistants such as Alexa or Google Home.
According to the study, web developers have to adapt to Voice recognition to support voice search and use VUI where necessary.
4. Serverless Architecture:
It refers to the development and deployment of applications without being concerned with servers. This architecture given by services such as AWS Lambda and Google Cloud Functions keeps the operational costs low and deployment easy.
5. Motion UI:
In Motion UI, animation and transition are the center of attention when it comes to designers. From loading spinners to making smooth transitions, Motion UI is responsible for adding a form of interactivity and style to the interface, which is very important for websites today due to the stiff competition.
Conclusion
Nowadays, web development can be defined as a wide specialization area with new opportunities for further development. Front-end design, back-end logic, full-stack development, all these concepts and trends are photographers to build highly effective Websites today – effective, user-friendly, and future-proof. Continuing your education about these technologies and other best practices places you in proper standing as a web developer and enables you to contribute to the ongoing formation of the web for many more years to come.

LOYALTY - INHO & GIHUN
pairing: inho x male reader (x gihun)
synopsis: a sequel to this fic.
content warnings: 18+, dubcon (almost non-con), kidnapping, drugging via gas, anal fingering, vouyerism, semi public sex
word count: 1k
A/N: taglist- @thatonerylan @ayieayee
A sharp chemical sting filled your nose as you groaned awake, your head pounding like it had been cracked against the marble dining table. The last thing you remembered was the... exchange between you and Gi-hun—words of resolution and defiance as the two of you made an unspoken pact to forfeit the games. The gas came swiftly, robbing you of breath before the world went dark.
Now, as your eyes adjusted to the dim, shadowy room, a sense of unease settled in your chest. You sat up slowly, taking in your surroundings. The walls were dark gray, lined with shelves of monitors displaying grainy, disjointed feeds from what looked like different areas of the games. A single chair sat in the middle of the room, facing a vast wall of screens.
“Where…?” you muttered, turning your head to see Gi-hun slumped on the floor nearby, still unconscious. Relief washed over you for a moment—he was alive.
“You’re awake,” a voice cut through the silence like a blade.
You whipped your head toward the source, your breath catching as the figure stepped forward from the shadows. The Front Man. His imposing frame was clad in that familiar black outfit, the gleaming, angular mask covering his face. He exuded an aura of authority and danger, and something about the way he moved felt predatory.
“Where are we?” you demanded, your voice steady despite the racing of your heart.
The Front Man ignored your question, his gloved hands clasped behind his back as he circled you slowly, like a lion sizing up its prey. “You and Gi-hun,” he began, his voice smooth and low, “are quite the anomaly. Defiance. Unity. It’s rare to see such traits here. Even rarer to see them... together.”
You clenched your fists, your muscles tense. “What are you talking about?”
He stopped in front of you, tilting his head slightly. Though his mask betrayed no expression, you felt the weight of his gaze. “Let’s just say,” he said, his voice dipping, “that you’ve caught my attention.”
Before you could respond, he stepped closer, the air between you thickening with an almost suffocating intensity. His gloved hand reached out, and you flinched as his fingers brushed your jaw, tilting your face up to meet his masked visage.
“Both of you have,” he continued, his voice almost a purr now. “But you... you’ve intrigued me most.”
His touch lingered for a moment before he withdrew his hand, pacing slowly. “The games are about control, about survival. And yet, you’ve managed to disrupt that balance. How fascinating.”
“Let us go,” you snapped, your voice firm despite the heat creeping up your neck.
He chuckled darkly. “Oh, it’s far too late for that.”
You glanced at Gi-hun, still unmoving, and your chest tightened. When you turned back to the Front Man, he was closer now, towering over you. “You see,” he murmured, his voice dripping with something unspoken, “I’ve developed a... personal interest in my players. Especially the ones who stand out.”
Before you could react, his gloved hand cupped your face, pulling you to your feet. His grip was firm but not painful, his movements deliberate. The mask tilted slightly, and then his lips were on yours.
The kiss was overwhelming, a clash of dominance and desperation. His lips moved against yours with a hunger that stole your breath, his gloved hand gripping the back of your neck to hold you in place. It was sloppy, intense, his tongue brushing against yours with a need that bordered on feral.
You pushed against his chest, but he didn’t relent. Instead, he pulled you closer, his other hand finding your waist. The kiss deepened, his breath hot and heavy as he devoured every inch of your mouth. The cold leather of his gloves contrasted with the heat radiating from his body, sending shivers down your spine.
A groan escaped him, muffled against your lips, and the sound ignited something deep inside you—an undeniable mix of fear and thrill. His lips trailed briefly to your jaw, his teeth grazing the sensitive skin before returning to your mouth.
His hand inched down to your pants, pushing them off with one firm tug. You squeaked at the cool air hitting your thighs, a wet spot staining your boxers.
The man looks at it and smirks. “So you do want this…hm?” He whispers before he slides a hand down your boxers, discarding them along with your pants.
The cool air does a number on your length, raising it erect. Your mind thinks of one thing, your body reacts differently.
“Such a pretty little thing f’me,” he cooes before spreading your legs wide open, the air hitting your now exposed hole.
You shudder when he suddenly prods a lubed digit at your hole, testing the waters. With you physically being unable to respond, he slowly slides the finger in, eliciting a loud moan from you. He slowly adds a second, and then a third finger, pumping them in and out of your clenching hole.
Your dick twitches, untouched, so the man uses his other hand to slowly jerk you off, the speed at a vast difference to what he was doing to your hole.
As you feel your orgasm wash over you like a waterfall, your eyes roll to the back of your head, an almost pornographic moan leaving your lips.
“W-what the hell...” a groggy voice cut through the haze.
You both froze, your breath coming in heavy pants as you turned to see Gi-hun stirring on the floor, his eyes squinting against the dim light. He blinked slowly, his expression shifting from confusion to shock as he took in the scene before him.
“What... are you doing to him?” Gi-hun rasped, his voice laced with anger and disbelief.
The Front Man straightened, his digits still buried inside your ass, his posture unbothered. “Ah, Gi-hun,” he said smoothly, turning to face him. “You’re just in time.”
Gi-hun struggled to sit up, his eyes narrowing as they flickered between you and the Front Man. “Leave him alone,” he growled, his voice gaining strength.
The Front Man chuckled, his hand squeezing your cock. “Oh, but he doesn’t seem to mind,” he said, his tone mocking. “Do you?”
You opened your mouth to respond, but words failed you, your mind reeling from the overstimulation.
“Let’s see how far your loyalty truly goes,” the Front Man said, his voice dripping with malice.

Voice of Treason
1,7k. words | f! (player 222) Reader | angst | yandere behavior | pregnancy | mentions of death | not proofread
Squid Game S2 Spoilers ahead!
A/N: just a lil' drabble written on my phone, but this man got a chokehold on me so I needed to get it out of my system
A bloodcurling scream echoed through the hallways as you witness player 390's lifeless body drop to the ground.
You didn't even know his real name.
Both you and 456 had been forced on your knees, wailing on the ground as you mourned the death of your allies, well aware your own demise was imminent.
This whole ordeal was futile from the start, but you had decided that you'd follow this reckless fool to the grave rather than dying for the sick entertainment of a rich elite without even putting up a fight.
"Where is 001? What did you do to him, you bastard?!"
In-ho's face dropped behind the angular plastic of his mask, taken aback by your worry for him despite of your own hopeless situation. "Why do you care?" the distorted voice spoke callous despite his inner turmoil. "The man you got to know is long dead."
You collapse at this revelation and you let out heartbroken sobs, hugging your belly as if to cling to the last thing that kept you from spiraling into despair.
Gi-hun observed your interaction with great pity. It was understandable to develop feelings for another while trapped in such an insane life-and-death situation, especially since 001 had been especially protective of you due to your circumstance.
But player 456 that has become a mentor towards you had warned you several times to not give in to this irrational sentiment, reminding you that the man you fell for had an expecting wife waiting for him back home.
"Take them away" he orders his henchmen, withdrawing the gun before tearing his eyes away from you. "The game needs to continue."
"Take him" the man dressed in all-black ordered his henchmen, gesturing towards player 001 before busying himself with you again. "The game needs to continue."
Gi-hun's pleads to spare you if not for the unborn child's sake went on deaf ears as a bag was put over his head and he was dragged away.
The Frontman lifted his gun again, the shaking of his hand barely noticeable as the barrel stroke almost gently across your cheek, a black trail of gunpowder trailing his movement. With one swift movement he put it underneath your chin, forcing you to look up to him one final time.
In a last act of resistance you spat at the man's feet, your relentless glare imbued with hatred as it bore into his skull. "You're a monster!"
"I know."
And yet he couldn't bring himself to pull the trigger.
While you assumed sadistic glee as his motivator, In-ho was shocked with himself, caught in a labyrinth of his own mind. After a while of letting those conflicting emotions ravage his heart, he withdrew his weapon, signalizing the guard behind you to knock you out before sending a bullet straight to his head.
What he plans to do cannot allow any witnesses, even among his own ranks.
*~´*~´*~´*
God knows how much time had passed since then, but when you finally regained consciousness, only one question was burning urgently:
Why are you still alive?
You jolted up in a rush of adrenaline, scanning the unfamiliar room you were brought to. The interior was almost completely dipped in pitch black, even the furniture was no exception.
A new game, maybe?
Eventually your eyes caught the silhouette lurking in a corner of the room, leaned over in a huge armchair. That damned mask of his did nothing to hide the piercing glare you could feel underneath.
Feeling your rapid breaths and how your body started to tremble uncontrollably, panic threatened to consume your every sense.
Your mind was invaded with countless horrid scenarios to why a deranged man like him would take you back to - as it appeared - his private bedchamber.
The sheer sight of him was a nightmare, but seeing him approaching you with firm, deliberate steps shook you to the core. He pries off one of his gloves, laying them on the nightstand besides you with his whole demeanour perfectly composed.
A violent tremor jolts through your body as he reached out for you, however he merely places his hand onto your belly, unable to hold back a muffled gasp as he feels it kick beneath his palm.
"I had a doctor check on you while you were unconscious" he disclosed as if it was some sort of generous act. "The baby is perfectly fine. A little fighter, like it's mother."
It was meant to be a placating gesture but it had the complete opposite effect on you, not daring to guess the reason for his sudden interest.
Your face contorts in disgust and you shuffle away from his touch, pulling your knees to your chest and wrap the blanket over your belly, as if to shield it from this homicidal maniac. "Why- What do you want from me, you fucking lunatic?!"
There was a while of strained silence between your question and his answer.
"I told you to stay back, you foolish girl" he sighed, striping the hood from his head but his hand hesitated on the buckle of his mask. "But you insisted on joining this pathetic revolt."
The moment he unveiled his face your world scattered for the second time today, as you were confronted with the face of a dead man - at least the one you had mourned and wept for just shortly before.
Oh just seconds ago your greatest wish was to be able to see him one last time, to confess the things you had preserved until it felt like you'd burst with that secret admiration for him.
Right now however it was like staring straight into the abyss.
He forced his lips into a crooked bow, that fake excuse of a smile you had always thought to be remnant of the hardships he had to endure. But now you saw it - or rather him - for what it truly was.
This couldn't be real. It mustn't be real.
You replayed those words in your head over and over again, but they morphed into a nonsensical jumble, blurring with the overwhelming torment of confusion and betrayal.
He gazed at you with bated breath as he awaited your reaction, desperate to find any hint, at least a glimmer of affection in your features.
"Young-il?" you stammered with a meek, broken voice that buried him underneath a wave of shame he wasn't aware he could still feel.
He shakes his head. "No. My real name is Hwang In-ho...I'm sorry."
You knew the whole time, didnt you?
Something about him was off from the very start. The way he carried himself seemed to robotic, as if he was merely playing a role. Deep down you had always wondered about how his story never fully added up, so many times you ignored any suspicious behavior of his out of some twisted dependency.
And ever since you personally witnessed how he snapped the other contestant's neck without any remorse you had a plaqueing feeling that he wasn't who he claimed to be.
There was a wordless aggreement to keep quiet about this particular incident, due to your egoistical necessity of his protection.
That's when it dawned on you - he had already pulled you down to his level, made you his accomplice through your silence. And even now, all this time not even a single thought about the fate of your comrades had crossed your mind until now.
He only barely outranks you in selfish cruelty.
"Was-" you choke on a sob, feeling his thumb tenderly wipe away your tears just to be replaced with new ones. "Was it all a lie?"
"Not everything." In-ho spoke with a hint of melancholy in his bearing. "I did have an ill wife, back when I first participated. You remind me of her a lot actually...strong-willed and yet gentle." There was an undeniable reverence in his tone and the way his hand was still gracing your cheek. "I participated and won just for her...but when I returned, she was already gone."
You were torn between the seething anger and an irrational urge to comfort this grief-strickened man, in your shock the severity of his words not leaving you unscathed. "That- that still doesn't excuse a single one of your actions!" Refusing to give in you spat venom at him either way, reminding yourself the aching of your heart should be nothing but newfound hatred for the man.
"I'm aware" The Frontman neither aggrees nor denies your accusations, as it doesnt't matter to him at all. His voice is unbearably cold, the softness of his in it you were used to now replaced by a sharp edge. "I don't expect anything...no understanding or even acceptance. But i cant- won't let you go."
You could see it in his eyes that his stoic facade was crumbling, he was teetering on the brink of a bottomless pit, begging for a lifeline, needing for your presence to save him from the darkness within.
"I wanted to help you become the winner." In-ho takes a hold of your hands, squeezing them ever so slightly in the naive hope to convince you of his pure intentions. "That wasn't my plan initially, but I decided to risk it all to keep you safe. I swear I will protect you and our child, no matter what."
Our child. Such a small word yet such a huge impact. The implication sent a shiver down your spine, understanding it was like swallowing shards of glass.
In-Ho leans his forehead against yours, his own eyes glistening with usnhed tears. "You're my redemption, my salvation..." He trails off, suddenly grabbing the back of your neck, pulling your lips to crash over his. It was a searing kiss, one that demanded surrender, that commanded obedience, a vow to keep you at his side whether you want it or not.
You writhe against his hold as he cradles you in his arms, but his embrace is like a steel vice, suffocating and unyielding just as his love.
"I couldn't save her..." he rasps in a hoarse whisper, every syllable laced with utter determination. "Allow me to at least save you."

"Master Norn."
High priest Szyrax Norn turned, the upper half of his porcelain spine swiveling smoothly to regard his acolyte. The younger Phyrexian stood a distance away knee-deep in mycosynth growth, clutching in one hand the machete they were using to beat back the branches. For better or worse, they had always been a talkative one. "Vy'aksh. You speak out of turn. What requires my attention?"
"Master Norn, there's a child here."
Here? Of all places?
His spine snapping back into place, Szyrax picked his way into the undergrowth after his apprentice, tugging his crimson robes free of the mycosynth tendrils that ensnared them. At Vy'aksh's feet was a gently bubbling pool of ichor–one of the wellsprings they had come to seek, no doubt, glowing softly in its proximity to the white mana nexus overhead. The strange sun was one of five such phenomena known to the Phyrexians, which fed their enclosed metal world with light and mana. Their potent mutagenic effect on Phyrexian oil was precisely the subject of Szyrax's study.
He knelt down, retrieving a vial from his waist to scoop up an oil sample. Indeed, movement stirred in the pool. There was a small, slick thing, a Phyrexian larva, wriggling weakly through the iridescent ichor. Head to tail, it was barely half the length of Szyrax's forearm. He leaned forward to observe it. It was young enough still to have its larval tail, and blind before the development of its sight organs. Its four spindly limbs, folded tight against its body for swimming, hinted at a humanoid body structure not unlike Szyrax's own.
"No known parentage," Szyrax realized. "For all we know, born spontaneously of the original oil. The very same that birthed New Phyrexia itself."
"And the radiation–?"
"Let's see." Szyrax reached into the pool and caught the squirming creature, lifting it in two hands. Maintaining a firm grasp to restrain it, he held its body up to the light and turned it slowly in inspection. Speckling the mottled green germ-skin, nearly invisible, were minute spots of white. Porcelain buds. "This larva is indeed one of our lineage, but not from our vats. Its characteristics spring directly from the white nexus's alterations to its oil. An entirely new line."
The germ unfolded one oil-slicked forelimb, grasping blindly at Szyrax's angular faceplate with soft, unformed claws. Despite himself, a purr rattled in his throat.
"Come, Vy'aksh. This pool may have birthed it, but it will be too small to sustain it as it grows. We will bring the child back with us. It does not befit Phyrexia's generosity to abandon one so helpless."
—
Upon their return, Szyrax had released his finding into a vat of oil to dampen its gills again as he pondered what to do with it. Vy'aksh had been relieved of their duties for the day, with express instructions not to speak of the larva. Now Szyrax bore it back out in his arms, bundled in a length of red silk, to present to his superior. It had not so much as wailed since Szyrax first found it.
The Phyrexian known only as the High Chancellor presided over one of the first and largest cathedrals of New Phyrexia, its body knit to the interior back wall with glistening strings of sinew. If it had ever had limbs, they were now buried in the mass of red tendrils; what once might have been wings draped the walls as great membranous tapestries. It craned a long, segmented neck to peer at Szyrax as he approached through the vaunted nave, the swaddled germ clutched close against his chest. The only sound to accompany the priest's footsteps was the steady, echoing drip of oil in some unseen corner.
Nearing the altar at the end of the room, Szyrax bowed reverently. "Chancellor."
"High Priest Norn." The Chancellor's voice emerged from dozens of vocal cords woven into the walls. "You seek an audience with me."
Szyrax straightened again, meeting the Chancellor's empty eyeholes. "On my expedition to the white mana nexus, I made a… fortuitous discovery."
The Chancellor lowered its head to Szyrax's chest level, and took the measure of the bundle he held. Crimson silk fell away as the germ pulled down its own bindings and turned its yet-eyeless face toward the larger Phyrexian, showing no sign of fear. "A foundling."
"Born from the original oil itself."
The Chancellor leaned forward in avid, covetous interest. Szyrax swallowed the urge to pull away. "It bears the white nexus's radiance within it, tempered by the purest will of Phyrexia."
"Yes."
"Our studies of mana-induced mutagenesis are incomplete. I cannot determine the extent to which this larva has been altered, or what power may lay sleeping in its ichor." A pair of long, sinewy arms snaked out from the mass of the Chancellor's being. Instinctively Szyrax took a step back before the Chancellor could grasp the germ, his subordination overtaken by a flash of protectiveness.
"I intend to raise it as my own," Szyrax declared firmly. "Whatever its oil contains, I will mold it into a fine acolyte. If it reveals itself to be exceptional, all the better for our Phyrexia."
The Chancellor's many vocal cords vibrated in unison. "Very well. It shall be a benefactor of Phyrexia's most holy grace. Have you thought to give it a name?"
Szyrax dipped his head in affirmation. Indeed, one had already taken shape in his mind from the deep recesses of the ichor. It spoke of light and power, a radiant dawn the beginnings of which Szyrax could scarcely yet grasp.
"Yes. Its name will be Elesh."

30 hits us all hard. Sometimes when we are gym goers we grow strong and fat with it. Let’s see Jacks story:
Jack
It started gradually, so subtly that Jack barely noticed it at first. At 30, he still felt like the same fit, athletic guy he’d always been, and his gym routine reflected that. But something shifted when he began experimenting with heavier weights, branching out from the lighter routines he and his girlfriend had done together. Now, he was lifting on his own, craving bigger numbers on the barbell. And with that change, he began fueling himself differently too. Instead of salads and lean protein, he turned to fast, high-protein meals like double burgers and shakes packed with calories. It all tasted good, and each time he saw the weight on the scale tick up, he shrugged it off as muscle gain.
At first, it was a modest increase—200 pounds, then 210. He was thrilled by the boost in strength. His biceps swelled, thickening his arms and straining his sleeves. His shoulders broadened like they were built to carry the weight of the world, his shirts now snug across his chest. Even his face seemed to change, softening just a bit around the jawline. His once-angular features became a little more rounded, his cheeks a bit fuller, and his neck thickened in a way that gave him a stockier, almost bull-like appearance. When he’d see himself in the mirror, he noticed how his face looked softer, a bit heavier around his cheeks and jaw, with a slight hint of a double chin when he tilted his head just right.
By the end of the first year, he’d hit 230 pounds. His girlfriend noticed the difference, teasing him about his added bulk, especially around his thighs and chest. His pecs had thickened into solid slabs, jutting out and giving him a powerful silhouette. His chest pressed firmly against his shirts, creating a slight gap between the buttons, and when he relaxed, his belly had started to push out just a little more, a softness settling in that was both unfamiliar and oddly satisfying.
His appetite grew alongside his weight. Meals that once left him full now felt like snacks. He’d down a couple of burgers and fries without a second thought, justifying it as fuel for his lifting. As the months passed, his belly took on a life of its own. At first, it was just a slight rounding, a soft layer over his abs. But by 250 pounds, it had developed into a noticeable curve, settling into a firm, thick mass that hung forward slightly over his waistband. It bounced a little when he walked, a sensation that was new and strange, but he didn’t mind. His strength gains were astounding, and the power he felt in the gym kept him hooked.
His body changed further as he moved into his second year of heavy lifting. At 270 pounds, he’d transformed into a massive figure. His face had rounded out considerably, his cheeks fuller, his jawline softened into a thick neck that now seamlessly blended into his broad shoulders. Even his chest had taken on a heftier, more prominent look, his pecs now sitting thick and heavy, with a hint of softness that jiggled slightly with movement. His neck had thickened, no longer as defined but instead a solid, muscular column that supported his now-imposing frame.
By now, his belly had grown into a solid, almost boulder-like presence. When he sat, it creased into two distinct rolls that rested comfortably atop his thighs, spreading out and pressing into his waistband. His girlfriend often commented on his new size, especially the way his belly now filled his lap. She’d playfully poke at the soft, rounded expanse, laughing as he feigned offense but secretly took pride in how much he’d grown. His abs were long gone, buried under layers of both muscle and fat, and his waist had expanded into a solid 40 inches.
Walking had changed, too. His thighs, thick as tree trunks, rubbed together with each step, and his glutes had grown into a powerful, rounded mass that pushed out behind him, straining against his pants. His lower half had taken on a life of its own, filling out seats and causing him to move with a slower, heavier gait. Climbing stairs felt like a workout in itself, leaving him a bit breathless, but the trade-off was worth it every time he gripped the barbell and felt the raw strength surging through him.
By year three, he’d hit 300 pounds, a far cry from the lean 200-pound frame he’d once had. His face had taken on a fullness that softened his features entirely, his cheeks permanently rounded, his jawline now blending smoothly into a thicker neck. When he smiled, there was a hint of a double chin, and he found himself adjusting to a new expression in the mirror—one that reflected his strength but also the undeniable bulk he now carried. His chest, once hard muscle, had become a mix of power and padding, with a slight jiggle as he moved, his pecs almost resembling a set of powerful pillows that pushed out his shirt in every direction.
His belly had grown into a true presence now, rounding out over his waistband and resting heavily when he sat. It had a soft, dense weight to it, jiggling slightly when he walked, folding naturally into a thick roll that spilled over his belt. The feel of it was grounding, solid, a reminder of just how far he’d come. Even when he bent down to pick up a weight, he’d feel the stretch of his belly against his thighs, a comfortable, warm reminder of his transformation.
Cardio was a distant memory. His strength had soared, his powerlifting numbers now rivaling those of competitive lifters. He could move ungodly amounts of weight, his body a testament to sheer power. His movements were slower, more deliberate, his bulk a constant reminder of his journey. Each step he took, each shift in his seat, each new pound on the scale—it all added to the person he’d become: 300 pounds of power, muscle, and undeniable mass, every bit of it earned. And he loved it.

When the vocation knocks on the door, nothing can stop it.
Pema had abandoned her life in the countryside surrounded by her family when the Virgin called her in a dream. Her mother had tried to convince her not to take “such extreme” measures; she could still be a good parishioner without putting on the habit, after all, forging a family was another sign of love for God and his dogmas, but none of that made Pema falter.
She packed her bags and left.
Her education had been in a small convent where the doors were kept closed and the prayers bounced off the walls. For a country girl who grew up surrounded by mountains and wide pastures, it was hard; the beds were hard, the food tasteless, the work was hard… But whenever she closed her eyes she could hear a velvety and firm voice encouraging her, giving her strength back.
Pema tried to excel in whatever she was allowed to do; however, writing was the best of all her learnings. When the Mother Superior improved her perception of her, she authorized her for intellectual work. She developed it faster than the others, her translations were much better than average, and the interpretations of the writings that came into her hands made even the parish priest, a man of few words, pat her on the back and recommend her to a more “suitable” place.
In less than two years Pema felt that she had hit the nail on the head, those mornings where she woke up thinking that her mother had been right were part of the past, now she simply contemplated the long journey she would go through, going in a carriage accompanied by several suitcases containing all kinds of books, scrolls, incense and other materials that her priest had wanted to send with her. Pema killed time with her prayers and scribbling all kinds of cheesy phrases in an improvised notebook, her former Mother Superior had come to punish her for her “indecent poetry”, Pema had not found a way to explain to her that the virgin who appeared in her dreams was the only recipient of her affection.
Perhaps the way she said it was the problem.
That trip gave her time to think, to fill her lungs with clean air and take her worries off her shoulders, after all her love was not bad, if it had led her down that path of faith and sacrifice it could not be. The convent that Pema arrived at was curious, it looked more like a library than a religious center, there were books and figures everywhere, beautiful marble figures that evoked the saints in the most magnificent forms, huge windows through which the light filtered in making a gorge of lights, wide hallways with huge columns, polished walls where angels and stone parishioners held the roof over their heads.
If paradise existed it must have looked like that place.
However, among all that extravagance of art there was something that made Pema's heart feel heavy and dirty, it was a priest who frequented the place, made constant pilgrimages and gave talks about his interpretations of the Bible, Pema found him to be such an eloquent subject, his sweet words and kind gestures made her heart melt like butter in a frying pan. But admiration wasn't bad! Right? Pema told herself that anyone had the right to feel that way, it wasn't a sin to appreciate someone's company.
But the virgin of her dreams began to fall silent.
Pema closed her eyes at night and could no longer see her, that beautiful virgin who remained covered by a green habit bordered with silver stars, with the scent of jasmine and incense, blood and liquor, with a sharp smile and an angular face, with fluffy dark curls from which silver hair could sometimes be seen... A woman so beautiful could only be the mother of God, right? She was the proof that Pema was right... So, now that she had been supplanted in her dreams by the vague memories of that priest, the pain began to take root.
In her prayers Pema silently implored her virgin to forgive her, to return to her dreams to recite sweet words, she could not concentrate on her translation tasks or anything, even the simplest of responsibilities was too much for her, her hands trembled and her skin remained cold, her dark circles grew and her image became neglected. Had it been a mistake to accept that promotion? Perhaps her purpose in life was to dedicate herself to God in the darkness of a room… Although it had not been God who had taken her there.
It was not to him that Pema wanted to dedicate her life.
When she had to do the rite to be the Lord's Wife she felt somewhat blasphemous, the figure she wanted to embrace and belong to was her virgin… But a woman cannot be the wife of another.
That was beyond blasphemous.
The other members of the convent began to notice Pema's decline and, against her wishes, it was Tenzin who offered to speak to her. He didn't take her to an office to make her feel guilty, he kindly asked her to accompany him to pick flowers in the surroundings, soon they would celebrate the day of the Virgin, so all the figures made in her honor would be decorated and what could be more beautiful than filling her with flowers? Tenzin rambled about places where they praised the acts of Mary while Pema carefully cut the most beautiful specimens, in her head she repeated that perhaps her virgin would forgive her if she praised her properly.
Her self-absorption was so unnatural with her way of being that Tenzin stopped his speech, he had to be more introspective if he wanted to genuinely help her.
– Why did you take this path?
– Roses are elegant… A queen should have many of them.
– No… No, this path, the one of your vocation.
Pema felt her cheeks warm when she saw the laugh that Tenzin tried to hide, her head was not hitting the right nails.
– Well… I always wanted something more than just being a peasant… It’s not a dishonorable job but I wanted… Something more, the… T-the virgin showed me this way and I haven’t regretted obeying her.
– It’s noble, aspiration is sometimes confused with greed in women, being able to take your desires and use them as fuel to bring your life closer to God is something you should be proud of.
– Thank you… May I… ask why you took this path?
Pema didn’t want the conversation to focus on her, she felt that her bond with her virgin was too intimate to be revealed to the cause of her migraines. Tenzin seemed to think about his answer, finally leaning down when some daffodils peeked out from the grass, he picked them carefully extending the silence that was beginning to bother Pema. Had it been an inappropriate question?
– My family is a family of warriors, my mother comes from a military lineage… More than respectable, both she and my sister could ride a horse wielding a weapon and wipe out an entire army.
– Wouldn’t that be… Improper? Going against the laws of nature.
– A woman who defends her home is not unnatural – Tenzin sentenced – My teachings are not exactly the favorites of my superiors, violence is not foreign to me, however my father was a man with another kind of faith, he came from some far away place where eating meat was an affront… His way of seeing the world was so broad and fresh that my mother did not hesitate to form a home with him, even against the wishes of others.
– And was it from him that I inherited this vocation?
– No… I'm just rambling, I was ready to leave for his country and look for that faith he spoke of, I was never given the same as my brothers so I assumed that my path would be another, but when I set foot outside this country she came to my dreams and made me see reason.
– Her?
– My protector – Tenzin took some flowers that grew among the weeds to accompany the daffodils, for a moment Pema felt that she saw love in his eyes, the kind that inspires poetry and makes the bells ring on a Sunday in church, the kind that drives men away from their habits and brings them closer to the altar.
For a second she felt terrified and identified, as if they were both accomplices in the same crime.
– Did you also congregate for the Virgin?
– She is not… She is not Our Mother Mary, she is another kind of… Woman, she chose me to serve her and I can only do so in this place, with these clothes, if I try to move away my body becomes sick and my mind is tormented… I belong to her.
Pema stood, not knowing how to process that. Was she some saint? Some archangel to whom she had given a woman's face? She did not want to assume anything bad, but those words were more incriminating than she would like. – If she brought him to a good place and made him a good man then she is a good woman.
– … That is one way of looking at it, of course – Tenzin approached and put the flowers he had collected in Pema's basket and looked at her, as if he were looking at a lamb before dinner, any good country woman would recognize that look – Can you go back alone? I cannot accompany you back, forgive me.
– Don't worry, I know the way well.
Pema's steps hurried up the mountain again to return to the convent, the sun was setting while her heart hammered between her ribs. What had that statement meant? Was Tenzin in love with some inappropriate woman and that was his way of saying it? Pema had heard about priests who completely lost their way because of the eyes of some damsel who returned them to the mundane life of passions and earthly commitments… But if that woman had dragged him there then she couldn't be just any maiden. Another nun? It would make more sense with the puzzle that Pema was beginning to put together in her head, she drew in her imagination a woman bringing her hands closer to Tenzin, wrapping him in her orders, cutting off his own dreams to keep him locked in that place under her designs.
Jealousy bubbled like hot water in her stomach.
Pema evaded her companions and took one of the candles to go down to the altar of the virgin, she had to uproot the dirty feeling that was growing around that man, she would lock herself in her room, she would whip herself if necessary, but she would not allow him to continue contaminating her faith.
Arriving at the altar she could see the Immaculate dressed in her best clothes, with pearls hanging between her hands, with richly embroidered habits covering her head, with a huge and majestic headdress cast in gold that crowned her as the greatest among the queens, at her feet there were already many flowers, most of them of an immaculate white. Pema left the candle somewhere far away to start preparing her flowers, her nose was red and her feet were sore, a couple of sobs were present as she removed the thorns, if only she could tear out her heart… She would put it on a tray for her virgin and maybe that would please her.
– I would.
Pema looked up and searched around her, the light that the candle gave off covered almost nothing of the altar, everything was lost in the golden flashes that came from the Immaculate Conception, there could easily be someone murmuring things there… But it wasn't like that, Pema had a keen sense, and something quickly caught her attention from the Immaculate Conception, she left the flowers aside and raised the candle towards the statue, under all the lace and the recently retouched makeup she could see sharp green eyes that looked back at her, that angular face was not the face of the Immaculate Conception that she saw every Sunday, that double scar on her cheek was not that of the Mother of God.
It was the voice of her virgin, the face of her virgin.
The figure leaned towards Pema knocking down several of the flowers that surrounded her, her hands separated and blew out the candle plunging everything into the deepest darkness, outside the chapel Tenzin contemplated the moon while guarding the door, sometimes he wondered if that God that filled the paintings was the real one or perhaps it was all an amalgam of spirits with which the balance had to be maintained as his father proclaimed so much in life... He was a man of faith, it would not cost him to believe in any of that.
But his Lin, whatever she was, would not allow him to worship anything else.
At least now, if everything went well, he would no longer have to worship her in solitude.
(I'm half asleep, I hope the translation turned out decent)

LORE TIME!!1!!1! +Jack Kline pony bc I think he is neat. As seen below, he is gearing up to kick a monsters’ skull in :3x

natural born vamps are very scrawny and angular, close to skeletal bc vampires are always severely hungry and can only be satiated by blood. they have no tail and a almost scaled neck pouch where they can store excess blood for a snack later
turned vampires were once regular ponies, so while their hunger grows insatiable, they are still pretty fleshy. they have tails and the whites of their eyes turn greyish for night vision. smaller, rounder, firm neck pouches develop under the fur but since of half pony nature of turned vampires, they dont have to eat only blood, they can eat other things but it wont provide the nutrients they need to survive as a vampire
also the neck pouches are called ‘blood bags’ by hunters bc if u cut through the pouch when chopping their heads off its WAY bloodier than it had to be bc most of the vampire has no blood anywhere else in the body
so you gotta angle either above or below for less clean up
turned vamps are a little messier in general bc of blood being naturally all over the body but slowly getting clumped up in the neck, which is how turned vamps can survive not feeding for a while after being turned, so depending on how recent the turn is and when they had pony blood determines the blood spread when killed. they are considered turned once they drink blood for the first time, otherwise vampirism is reversible as seen in canon

He drinks “power” like saltwater all because he cannot swim

The Conflict Challenge for @asongofgoldenfireandblackblood
It was rare for Rhaena to walk the Red Keep halls unaccompanied, but she had just left the courtyard after speaking with some ladies around her age whose attendance was rare in King's Landing—determined to ingratiate her peers amongst the daughters of The Reach to the new kind of court her mũna, Baela, and Rhaena herself were bringing to life—and was taking the years-long memorized steps back to the wing of the castle she shared with her twin and their ladies. A few years ago she would've been overwhelmingly anxious just to walk the well-beaten path alone, but a few years ago she had not developed the reputation that now led people to move out of her way without a moment's hesitation and smile as she always made sure to return their greetings in kind, a few years ago she was not a Princess of the Realm engaged to marry the Prince-Hand, a few years ago this was not Queen Rhaenyra's court.
"Oi! In the pink!" Rhaena did not startle, but still snapped towards the voice quickly, stopping as she was about to start up the stairs in the entry hall and came to face the boy who'd called out to her. He was still a boy to be sure, at least, he was still young, no more than five years her senior she was certain. Rhaena didn't recognize him, but he looked similar to several Marcher families from the Stormlands, and a handful of members she'd met from Houses in the Westerlands; He had the same angular face and almond-shaped eyes as the Lannisport Lannisters, but the all black attire and mop of dark curls that suited him well enough almost made her think of Gysella's family—no, she'd have told her if any of the Blacktydes were sailing in—and all the lions were far too proud to go out not flaunting their house colors in some way; he must be a Dondarrion, Prince Aegon got along well with their lord and his brother, and she'd only ever heard good things about the family herelf.
"May I help you?" Rhaena greeted him with her usual, bright smile.
The boy seemed to be teetering between flustered and annoyed, asking bluntly, "Have you seen my siblings?"
"Do I look like I know the whereabouts of every noble child in this castle?" Her tone remained gentle as she crossed her arms, always a firm believer in returning the energy others offered her.
"Well, no," He laughed, and Rhaena could hear the words he had the good sense not to add aloud in the noise, 'you don't look like you know much of anything', she knew the sound of boys laughing at her far too well.
Strike One; Her father and grandmother had instilled in Rhaena young—each in their own ways—that men are dangerous creatures, and more dangerous still to women as beautiful and privileged as her. Don't allow one to set off your alarm bells three times in a row, after that you'll either need to be leaving, or resorting to screaming.
He continued on, "But you look like the girls who circle around those Princesses who've made leashing a fair few of them look easy."
The list of potential candidates for the boy's identity narrowed to all of three in the same instant she realized he was unaware of hers. All of the options were indictments unto themselves, she kept her tone unconcerned, "I may, who might you be?"
"Lord Toron Greyjoy, at your service," He offered a grin that did not reach his eyes while imbuing the greeting with unmistakable mockery, appearing to expect as soon as he spoke that the name alone would scare her; it very well may have frightened the Crane, Oakheart, and Caswell girls back in the courtyard, but she was far too aware the implicit threat in his tone was nothing more than yappy-barking.
Strike Two; A mixture of loathing and morbid curiosity kept Rhaena planted.
"Aren't you one of what? Fourteen? My Lord, I know for certain I can't tell you all their whereabouts."
Toron barked out another laugh, "No, that would be quite a feat, even their mothers usually don't know where any of them who aren't their blood are. I'm just after the older third though, Asha, Rodrik, and Elyanna, there was some noise about them going somewhere with Briar and Megga, but now I've lost track of all five of them and if they come back with another surprise boyfriend or spur-of-the-moment...well, whatever you lot call all of that—" He just gestured vaguely towards Rhaena's bright pink gown, elaborately styled twists, and artistically designed cosmetics. "—I'll be the one with hells to pay for not keeping them out of trouble.'
"Haven't seen any of them I'm afraid," She responded placidly, it was all she could do to keep herself from grabbing Toron by the collar and scolding him like a disrespectful child. Rodrik had assured her four or five times by now their father's heir was far more charming than himself, but he proved to be as sweet and mildly oblivious as ever; Toron was charismatic, if he was trying maybe he'd even be magnetic, but he didn't contain an ounce of charm.
"Have you seen the Crown Princess then? They all speak so highly of her, I imagine it's good fun to keep them as her own little, captivated audience. Or Lady Tyshara, for that matter? She appears no longer satisfied with only collaring my little brother and seems to want the whole lot of them as pets."
Rhaena nearly broke as it dawned on her with every passing word he was joking. His grin growing but never managing to spark up his eyes as he spoke, clearly expecting her to consider his siblings no more than menagerie displays, and content to laugh along without even the pretext of them being worth greater respect. It struck her how much he must truly believe the only way they could've found favor amongst her circle was through meekness, obedience, subservience…how happy he must still be to drink Lord Dalton's saltwater lies about loyalty and loneliness she only knew through coaxed confessions and secrets shared between seedlings. "I'm sorry, I don't, and I'm expected upstairs."
Strike three; Toron didn't get to know the easiest way to open up the scabs on her notoriously bleeding heart was to speak ill of her friends, and above all her twin. She was not in the business of educating men on the alternatives to pesky little siblings and mothers still alive and well to keep track of them at all.
"That must make you Baela," He scoffed as she began to walk away. "I must admit I'm disappointed our future Queen can be so easily driven away by mild taunts. Or you're not, and you're truly just too dim to know, and too embarrassed to admit they don't tell you anything, Lady Velaryon."
For a split second Rhaena wished she was a Velaryon, blessed with all of her mother's grace and none of her father's nature, just so she could walk away. But she wasn't, and the fight in her that drove her to claim one of the oldest living dragons alone just to prove she could, and made her extravagantly embrace what most considered the most contemptible parts of herself just to show she could outshine them all while doing so, compelled her back to face him.
Strike four; He brought this on himself, she knew his siblings weren't going to yell at him for all this childish cruelty, but by the Gods someone had to and she could use the stress-relief of some screaming.
"Since you've decided to put our niceties aside, you will address me as your Grace or Princess, your choice. Though, I think I won't like hearing either near as much off your lips as all the rest of your—I must say—far more silver-tongued siblings."
"Princess Rhaena," He sneered, "And here I thought you'd at least have enough sense not to unlock your dollhouse doors while this castle is crawling with all manner of eyesores."
Rhaena finally laughed, humorless and mocking as she knew he had tried to keep his from sounding, "Aw, poor pup, are you growling from the anxiety of your brother and sisters deciding to live outside of your great, big shadow? Or just in the hope that if daddy hears you did it so loud and scary he'll give you a pat on the head and a treat?"
"You dare to—" Toron's hand went to the scabbard on his hip, but Rhaena called calmly to the Kingsguard standing only a few feet away at the doors to the Great Hall,
"Ser Lorent, if Lord Greyjoy here draws his blade, seize him before he causes a panic."
"Aye Princess," The Kingsguard had known and often guarded Rhaena since she first came to live at the Red Keep when she was not quite ten, he didn't need her to ask, she simply needed him on alert.
"And to call your guard on me too, how—"
"How pitiful," She stopped his raging before it could truly start. "All those cruel jabs and you can't handle a bit of mockery in return without resorting to the one skill you know most can't compete against. But it hurts, doesn't it? To be treated like the dog you accuse your siblings of becoming over such banalities as lipgloss or eyeliner. Are you that insecure? The heir to a Great House, perhaps the best swordsman of your age, yet still threatened by your younger siblings becoming more popular, shining brighter, simply being prettier than you."
"The last thing I want is for you to find me pretty, I can assure you."
Rhaena laughed again, unable to hide her growing amusement, "If that was true you wouldn't feel the need to insult and demean anyone who wants different, you simply wouldn't care. No—" She pouted, brushing a stray curl away from his face before he could swat her back. "—You wish I could make you half as pretty to the girls in this court as I could see a vision for within ten seconds of meeting your brother. You want to be adored like Asha, sought after like Briar and even little Lysa, envied like Rodrik and Tyshara have become. Because for the first time in your lives you're not the golden son of the black kraken, you're just another young Lord driven to self-sabatoge because you don't know what or who you want to be besides your father's favorite hunting hound. But the harsh truth is all the things I do you were too self-conscious to even say out loud, all my aesthetic, romantic, cosmetic, idealistic sensibilities you find so distasteful? It's nothing more than set-dressing, I don't write new scripts, just have a talent for knowing which backdrop would best set the scene. All the fixes and improvements I could give you would be completely worthless, because there's nothing in this world uglier than a bully, laughing at everyone else just to feel big enough to face the world. And that won't change until you can conjure up a new vision for yourself."
Toron didn't speak, Rhaena didn't care to know how he would respond, and turned to leave. "Last I heard Asha, Gysella, and Briar went to the stables, no clue about the others, and if you come looking for them in my chambers I'll see you spend a night in the cells for the intrusion. Consider us even," She glanced back to smile brightly at him one last time, "We're all friends now after all, maybe you should be scared."

woah! just saw your bio change to software engineer. how did you transition? is it any different than web dev?
i also went on a TikTok rabbit hole and people are saying it’s useless to learn html/css and it’s not an actual language. honestly idk why I thought it would be easy to learn html > css > javascript > angular > react and somehow land a good paying job…
it’s gonna take YEARS for me to have a career, i feel old… especially with no degree
Hiya! 🩶
This is a long reply so I answered your question in sections below! But in the end, I hope this helps you! 🙆🏾♀️
🔮 "How did you transition?"
So, yeah my old job title was "Junior Web Developer" at a finance firm, and now my new title is "Frontend Software Engineer"! In terms of transition, I didn't make too much of a change.
After I quit my old job, I focused more on Frontend technologies that were relevant, so I focused on React.js and Node.js. I used YouTube, books, and Codeacademy. My first React project was >> this Froggie project <<~! Working on real-life projects such as the volunteering job I did (only for a month) where they used the technologies I was learning. So basically I did this:
decides to learn react and node 🤷🏾♀️
"oh wait let me find some volunteering job for developers where they use the tech I am learning so I can gain some real-life experience 🤔"
experienced developers in the team helped me with other technologies such as UI tools, and some testing experience 🙆🏾♀️
I did the volunteering work for both fun and learning with experienced developers and... I was bored and wanted to feel productive again... 😅
So for transitioning, I focused on learning the new technologies I wanted to work in and got some work experience (though it was volunteering) to back up if I can work in an environment with the tech. I still live with my family so I could do the volunteering job and have time to self-study whilst being okay financially (though I was tight with money haha) 😅👍🏾
🔮 "Is it any different than web dev?"
The old job was focused on using C# and SQL (including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript but fairly small) to make the websites, they were fairly basic websites for clients to use just to navigate their information needed. They weren't fancy cool web design because they didn't need to be, which was what made me bored of the job and wanted a change.
I am only a week into the job and have been working on small tickets (features for the site), but I think after a month or two into the job I will make a proper judgment on the difference~! So far, it's kind of the same thing I did in my old job but with new workflow tools, React-based projects, and funny people to work with 😅🙌🏾
🔮 "People are saying it’s useless to learn HTML/CSS and it’s not an actual language."
Yes HTML is a markup language and CSS is a stylesheet but they are the foundation of like 90% of the websites on the internet, I wouldn't ever call them "useless". Frameworks such as React, Django, Flask, etc still require HTML and CSS code to make the website's structure and styling. CSS frameworks like Tailwind and Bootstrap 5 still use CSS as their base/foundation. Not useless at all.
Don't focus on what other people are doing and focus on your own learning. I repeat this all the time on my blog. Just because one or a couple people online said one technology is useless doesn't mean it is (this is applied to most things in tech). Someone told me jQuery was entirely useless and no bother learning it - I did it anyway and it helped me better understand JavaScript. Anyhoo, try things YOURSELF before listening to what people say - make your own judgment. Not going to let a random Tech bro online whine about how annoying Python or C or whatever is to ruin my want to learn something. (This is all coming from a girl who loves web development very much's point of view :D)
🔮 "I thought it would be easy to learn html > css > javascript > angular > react and somehow land a good paying job"
Web Dev route, I love it! That's literally the same steps I would have taken if I had to start again~! For each new tech you learn, make a bunch of projects to 1) prove to yourself that you can apply what you've learned 2) experience 3) fill that portfolio~! 😎🙌🏾
With Angular and React, I would pick one or the other and focus on being really good at it before learning another framework!
I also recommend volunteering jobs, freelancing, helping a small business out with free/paid m
Lastly, you do not need a degree to get a job in Web Development. I mean look at me? My apprenticeship certificate is the same value as finishing school at 18, so in the UK it would be A-Levels, and I completed it at the ripe age of 21! I have no degree, I applied for university and got a place but I will give that space up for someone else, I'm not ready for university just yet! haha... (plus erm it's expensive at the end, what? even for the UK...). Sure, I used to avoid the job postings that were like "You need a computer science degree" but now if I were job searching I would apply regardless.
People switching careers in their 40s going into tech instead are making it, you can switch anytime in your lifetime if you have the means to! (everyone's situation is different I understand).
I'm not too good at giving advice but I hope in the rambling I made some sense? But yeah that's all! 😎

The new tool in the art of spotting forgeries: Artificial Intelligence
Instead of obsessing over materials, the new technique takes a hard look at the picture itself – specifically, the thousands of tiny individual strokes that compose it
In late March, a judge in Wiesbaden, Germany, found herself playing the uncomfortable role of art critic. On trial before her were two men accused of forging paintings by artists including Kazimir Malevich and Wassily Kandinsky, whose angular, abstract compositions can now go for eight-figure prices. The case had been in progress for three and a half years and was seen by many as a test. A successful prosecution could help end an epidemic of forgeries – so-called miracle pictures that appear from nowhere – that have been plaguing the market in avant-garde Russian art.
But as the trial reached its climax, it disintegrated into farce. One witness, arguably the world’s leading Malevich authority, argued that the paintings were unquestionably fakes. Another witness, whose credentials were equally impeccable, swore that they were authentic. In the end, the forgery indictments had to be dropped; the accused were convicted only on minor charges.
The judge was unimpressed. “Ask 10 different art historians the same question and you get 10 different answers,” she told the New York Times. Adding a touch of bleak comedy to proceedings, it emerged that the warring experts were at the wrong end of a bad divorce.
It isn’t a comforting time for art historians. Weeks earlier, in January, the Museum of Fine Arts in Ghent, Belgium, was forced to pull 24 works supposedly by many of the same Russian artists – Kandinsky, Malevich, Rodcheko, Filonov – after the Art Newspaper published an exposé arguing they were all forged. Just days before, there was uproar when 21 paintings shown at a Modigliani exhibition in Genoa, Italy, were confiscated and labeled as fakes. Works that had been valued at millions of dollars were abruptly deemed worthless.
The market in old masters is also jittery after an alarming series of scandals – the greatest of which was that paintings handled by the respected collector Giuliano Ruffini were suspect. A Cranach, a Parmigiano, and a Frans Hals were all found to be forged; institutions including the Louvre had been fooled. The auction house Sotheby’s was forced to refund $10m for the Hals alone. Many experts are now reluctant to offer an opinion, in case they’re sued – which, of course, only intensifies the problem.
Adding fuel to the fire is another development: Wary of being caught, more and more forgers are copying works from the early to mid-20th century. It’s much easier to acquire authentic materials, for one thing, and modern paintings have rocketed in value in recent years.
For many in the industry, it is starting to look like a crisis. Little wonder that galleries and auction houses, desperate to protect themselves, have gone CSI. X-ray fluorescence can detect paint and pigment type; infrared reflectography and Raman spectroscopy can peer into a work’s inner layers and detect whether its very component molecules are authentic. Testing the chemistry of a flake of paint less than a millimeter wide can disclose deep secrets about where and, crucially, when it was made.
“It’s an arms race,” says Jennifer Mass, an authentication expert who runs the Delaware-based firm Scientific Analysis of Fine and Decorative Art. “Them against us.”
But what if you didn’t need to go to all that trouble? What if the forger’s handwriting was staring you in the face, if only you could see it? That’s the hope of researchers at Rutgers University in New Jersey, who have pioneered a method that promises to turn art authentication on its head.
Instead of subjecting works to lengthy and hugely expensive materials analysis, hoping a forger has made a tiny slip – a stray fiber, varnish made using ingredients that wouldn’t have been available in 16th-century Venice – the new technique is so powerful that it doesn’t even need access to the original work: A digital photograph will do. Even more striking, this method is aided by artificial intelligence. A technology whose previous contributions to art history have consisted of some bizarre sub–Salvador Dalís might soon be able to make the tweed-wearing art valuers look like amateurs.
At least that’s the theory, says Ahmed Elgammal, PhD, whose team at Rutgers has developed the new process, which was made public late last year. “It is still very much under development; we are working all the time. But we think it will be a hugely valuable addition to the arsenal.”
That theory is certainly intriguing. Instead of obsessing over materials, the new technique takes a hard look at the picture itself: Specifically, the thousands of tiny individual strokes that compose it.
Every single gesture – shape, curvature, the velocity with which a brush- or pencil-stroke is applied – reveals something about the artist who made it. Together, they form a telltale fingerprint. Analyze enough works and build up a database, and the idea is that you can find every artist’s fingerprint. Add in a work you’re unsure about, and you’ll be able to tell in minutes whether it’s really a Matisse or if it was completed in a garage in Los Angeles last week. You wouldn’t even need the whole work; an image of one brushstroke could give the game away.
“Strokes capture unintentional process,” explains Elgammal. “The artist is focused on composition, physical movement, brushes – all those things. But the stroke is the telltale sign.”
The paper Elgammal and his colleagues November 13, 2017 examined 300 authentic drawings by Picasso, Matisse, Egon Schiele, and a number of other artists and broke them down into more than 80,000 strokes. Machine-learning techniques refined the data set for each artist; forgers were then commissioned to produce a batch of fakes. To put the algorithm though its paces, the forgeries were fed into the system. When analyzing individual strokes, it was over 70% accurate; when whole drawings were examined, the success rate increased to over 80% . (The researchers claim 100% accuracy “in most settings.”)
The researchers are so confident that they included images of originals and fakes alongside each other in the published paper, daring so-called experts to make up their own minds. (Reader, I scored dismally.) One of Elgammal’s colleagues, Dutch painting conservator Milko den Leeuw, compares it to the way we recognize family members: They look similar, but we’re just not sure why. “Take identical twins,” he says. “Outsiders can’t separate them, but the parents can. How does that work? It’s the same with a work of art. Why do I recognize that this is a Picasso and that isn’t?”
The idea of fingerprinting artists via their strokes actually dates back to the 1950s and a technique developed by Dutch art historian Maurits Michel van Dantzig. Van Dantzig called his approach “pictology”, arguing that because every work of art is a product of the human hand, and every hand is different, it should be possible to identify authorship using these telltale strokes.
The problem, though, was that there was too much data. Even a simple drawing contains hundreds or even thousands of strokes, all of which needed to be examined by the human eye and catalogued. Multiply that by every work, and you see how impractical it was.
“It just wasn’t possible to test it,” says den Leeuw, who first became aware of pictology as a student. “I saw many attempts, but mostly it ended in ideas that would never be.”
But can AI now do what humans failed to, and give an art historian’s trained eye some sort of scientific basis? “Exactly,” says den Leeuw. “Very often it’s a gut feeling. We’re trying to unpick the mystery.”
Though Mass says she’s unlikely to throw out her fluorescence gun just yet, she admits to being impressed. “A lot of people in the field are excited by AI It’s not a magic bullet, but it’ll be another tool. And it’s really valuable when you’re dealing with a sophisticated forger who’s got everything else right – paint, paper, filler, all the materials.”
There are issues. So far, the system has been tested mainly on drawings from a handful of artists and a brief time period. Paintings, which generally contain thousands more strokes, are a tougher challenge; older paintings, which might contain numerous layers of restoration or overpainting, are tougher still. “It’s challenging, but it doesn’t mean we can’t do it,” Elgammal says. “I’m confident.”
What about style, though, particularly where an artist changes over time? Think of Picasso’s wildly varying periods – blue, African, cubist, classical – or how in the 1920s Malevich abandoned the elemental abstraction of his black squares for figurative portraits that could almost have been painted by Cézanne (pressure from Stalin was partly responsible).
Another expert, Charles R Johnson, who teaches computational art history at Cornell, is less persuaded – not so much by the AI as by the assumptions that lie behind it. “A big problem is that strokes are rarely individualized,” he says. “Overlap is difficult to unravel. Plus, one must understand the artist’s style changes over their career in order to make a judgment.”
In addition, Johnson argues, many artist’s brushwork is essentially invisible, making it impossible to unpick; it might be better to focus computer analysis on assessing canvases or paper, which can be more rigorously verified. “I remain quite skeptical,” he says.
Elgammal and den Leeuw concede there’s a way to go. Currently they’re working on impressionist paintings – infinitely more complex than Schiele and Picasso line drawings – and hope to publish the results next year. Even with the drawings, the machine can’t yet be left to learn on its own; often the algorithms require human tweaking to make sure the right features are being examined. Artists whose output isn’t large enough to create a reliable data set are also a challenge.
Asking Elgammal if he’s worried about being sued. He laughs, slightly nervously. “That’s something I think about.”
It’s a reasonable question, particularly pressing given the number of fakes that are circulating: What if your database accidentally becomes contaminated? Many people argue that the art market is hopelessly corrupt – so much so that some economists doubt whether calling it a “market” is even fair. Could the algorithm become skewed and go rogue?
“It’s like any system,” Mass agrees. “Garbage in, garbage out.”
Does she think that’s a possibility? How many fakes are out there? “Put it this way,” Mass says, “when I go into auction houses – maybe not the big ones, but smaller, local ones – I think ‘buyer beware.’ It might be between 50 and 70% .”
Rival solutions are coming down the road. Some have proposed using blockchain technology to guarantee provenance – the history of who has owned a work. Others have called for much greater transparency. Everyone agrees that the system is broken; some kind of fix is urgent.
Of course, there are big philosophical questions here. When someone goes to the effort of finding exactly the right 17th-century canvas, dons an antique smock, and paints a near-flawless Franz Hals, it should perhaps make us reconsider what we mean by the words “real” or “fake”, let alone the title of “artist”. Yet the irony is inescapable. It is hard to think of something more human than art, the definition of our self-expression as a species. But when it comes down to it, humans aren’t actually that good at separating forged and authentic in a painting that has all the hallmarks of, say, a Caravaggio but is merely a stunt double. Relying on our eyes, we simply can’t tell one twin from the other. We might even ask: Why do we care?
Forget cars that pilot themselves or Alexa teaching herself to sound less like the robot she is – AI seems to understand the secrets of artistic genius better than we do ourselves.
The irony is that, while machines might not yet might be able to make good art, they are getting eerily good at appreciating it. “Yes, it’s true,” he says thoughtfully. “When it comes to very complex combinations of things, humans are really not so good.” He laughs. “We make too many mistakes.”
